Joseph Harberg is a talented executive leader, entrepreneur, and legal counselor with over 35 years of business experience within retail, restaurant, energy efficiency, and marketing and advertising industries as the founder and CEO of multiple organizations. Joe provides invaluable insight to businesses seeking to carve a connection to consumers for a strengthened relationship and greater brand awareness. He is also adept at transacting real estate deals to help organizations secure and manage prime property for conducting their operations. Joe is a skilled mediator with a proven record of reducing or resolving conflicts by finding common ground for mutual success. He is capable of driving results at any level and is recognized as someone who fosters innovation and teamwork for the entire organization. With a wealth of expertise in digital marketing and advertising, raising venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, business development strategy, negotiation, and public speaking, Joe’s talents place him among the top tier of individuals who can provide strong leadership for a multitude of situations and stimulate strong growth for the organization.

Joe is the founder and Managing Partner of HWGA Group, a real estate strategic planning and consulting firm representing retailers and restaurateurs worldwide.  HWGAG is also acquiring and developing unique entertainment shopping centers across the US.   Previously, Joe served as founder and CEO of The Harberg Masinter Company (now Open Realty Advisors), where his client roster included many of the nation’s most notable specialty retail and restaurants concepts, including Apple, Restoration Hardware, House of Blues, Oakley, Brinker and many others.

Joe has been an investor in consumer based companies for over 30 years and is also the founding and managing partner of Retail & Restaurant Growth Capital. Joe's notable investments include Restoration Hardware, House of Blues, Quiznos®, Beauty First, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salons, Texas Land & Cattle, Uncle Julio’s, Cafe Express and most recently, the Common Desk.. 

Joe has been Chief Chocolateater of the Eat More Chocolate revolution for almost 50 years; eating, exploring and documenting the world of chocolate.  Intertwined with his business careers, Joe’s “chocolate” travels are well documented on EatMoreChocolate.com, keeping Chocolateaters acquainted his fantastic chocolate finds: delicious desserts at favorite restaurants, delectable confections at chocolate shops and fun chocolate events all around the globe.  Joe has visited, toured and interviewed  over 1200 chocolate shops, restaurants and events since the Fall of 2010.

Joe has been a licensed attorney / mediator and member of the State Bar of Texas since 1986. He is also a licensed attorney and a member of the New York Bar, since 2004. Joe is a Co-Founding Partner of Mediators 360, a mediation firm that utilizes co-mediation methods to help settle complex commercial and probate litigation.  Joe is a section member of the Alternate Dispute Resolution sections of the State Bar of Texas and the Dallas Bar Association. 

From 2016-2020 Joe was the founder and CEO of 2012 Sports, LLC.  2012 Sports, LLC  operated the ESPN Deportes Houston radio station licensee and operated the ESPN CUP soccer series, a  youth sports national championship and affiliated tournament network. 

Joe was Founding Principal Partner of Current Energy from 2005 until the sale to Halton International in late 2010. As CEO, Joe was responsible for Power Brokers, one of the largest electricity brokerage and consulting firms in the U.S., the CE Building Solutions and Controls groups, which developed and installing the finest small building controls, energy management and building automation system in the world – dramatically decreasing energy usage and saving companies money and launching the CE store, the World’s First Energy Efficiency Store® from 2006 through 2009.  The store was hailed as a flagship of the green movement in 2007 and Joe had numerous endorsements, including Time Magazine, the Sundance Channel and the US Department of Energy’s “Energy Innovator” award.

Joe also created and co-hosted the nationally syndicated Current Energy Report radio show every Saturday (which aired in Dallas and Houston and 20 other smaller markets) from 2006-2009. In 2008, Joe hosted a weekly segment on living an earth-friendly lifestyle for Good Morning Texas on WFAA-TV (ABC affiliate in Dallas). Today, Joe is still active in the green movement, serving as co-founder and partner in Eneract, LLC., a leading exhibitioner of green, sustainable and energy efficient products; Eneract was the Executive Producer of The Home of Tomorrow exhibition at the 125th annual State Fair of Texas (2011) and The Smart Idea Home exhibition for the Great Big Texas Home show at Jerry Jones’ Cowboy Stadium (2012)

Joe served as an advisor to The Hunt Institute for Engineering and Humanities at SMU and Oxford University. Mr. Harberg served as President of the 2009 AFI Dallas International Film Festival and was on the Advisory Board of the Dallas Film Society from 2008 - 2010. Joe and his wife Amy co-chaired the 2008 Vogel Alcove Arts Performance featuring Gladys Knight, which benefited the Vogel Alcove Childcare Center for the Homeless. He has previously served as the President of the Southern Regional Association of Small Business Investment Companies (SoRASBIC) and is a past Director on the Board of the National Association of Small Business Investment Companies (NASBIC).  He is a board member of the North Texas chapter of the Anti-Defamation League and past board member of The Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas and Congregation Shearith Israel. Joe is also a past board member of many other public and private retail and restaurant companies and civic organizations.

Joe received a BBA in finance from the University of Texas and a JD from the University of Houston Law School. He lives in Dallas with his wife, Amy, and their three children.
